- 1 - Abstract: The invention provides a method for the purification of HBc antigens, particularly HBc antigens produced by recombinant organisms by means of a DNA recombination technique, which comprises subjecting a solution con- taining the HBc antigens to an acid-treatment, wherein the solution containing the HBc antigen is acidified to a pH range of not higher than 6 by adding an acid, then removing the resulting precipitates of lipids and contaminant proteins, and then subjecting the acid-treated solution containing HBc antigen to an ion exchange chromatography with an anion exchanger. The invention also provides a method for measuring HBc antibodies by using the resulting purified HBc antigen in a passive hemagglutination method, an EIA method or a RIA method.
