1 PHN 9399 ABSTRACT: Method of an apparatus for manufacturing optical fibres, a preform being heated in a furnace which is pro- vided with a graphite heating element, a fibre being drawn from the heated preform, the fibre being subsequently cooled, being provided with a coating and, after drying of the coating, being wound onto a reel. During drawing of the fibre, the preform and fibre are flushed with a gas. According to the invention the gas with which the fibre is flushed is passed along a condensation element. For applying a coating to the fibre the fibre is passed through a nozzle which has a polygonal nozzle opening.
