2078335 9212819 PCTABS00014 A method of and device for processing a wire rod when the forward end thereof is intended to be tapered, made finer, and be flexible like a guide wire for catheter. Tapering is performed through a process in which, when the wire rod is passed through the electrolyzer, the linear speed is set constant with ampere controlled or ampere is set constant with the linear speed controlled, and, as electrolytic polishing bath, a mixture of trihydric alcohol, perchloric acid, and monohydric alcohol is desirably used. A method of this invention is more efficient than the conventional mechanical polishing or the batch method of soaking the wire rods one by one into the electrolytic polishing bath, and gives an effect of performing tapering work with high precision.
