Abstract Method of and device for manufacturing optical fibres. Although in the PCVD process in theory the quartz tube need not be rotated during the deposition of the glass layers, it has been found in practice that an improvement of the quality of the glass fibres obtained from the coated quartz tube can be obtained if the quartz tube during the deposition is rotated stepwise through an angle of 360°/n, where n is preferably equal to an integer from 2 to 12.
