ABSTRACT A method is provided for fabricating alumina doped silica fibres which allows the production of silica and dopent by reactions between gaseous chemical compounds. Alumina is obtained by reaction between oxygen and an organo- metallic compound having a low boilding point. The optical fibres produced do not present a refraction index dip and exhibit low attenuation.
