ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A method for strengthening a sodium lime silicate type glass by substituting potassium ions for sodium ions in a surface layer of glass by spraying an aqueous solution of potassium ions and from 1 to 6 weight percent of sodium ions upon the glass at a temperature of from about 200°C to just below the annealing point of the glass.
