PHN 11 139 16 31.10.1985 ABSTRACT: "Method of manufacturing an optical fibre with a protective coating" A method of a device for manufacturing an optical fibre with a protective coating is described in which a device for cooling the fibre after drawing from the preform is used. The cooling device comprises in principle a forced- cooled double-walled tube (2). In the space enclosed by the inner tube (2B) through which the fibre to be cooled is passed, a gas is present which has good heat-transporting properties, for example, helium supplied via an inlet tube (3). Cooling of the fibre takes place by heat dissipation via the helium to the forced-cooled tube wall. Said tube wall (2B) is cooled by passing a coolant via inlets and outlets (4 and g), respectively, through the space between the tube walls (2A and 2B). Fig. 2.
