The invention provides a process for preparing a neutral or an overbased detergent, the process by: reacting (a) a pre-prepared suspension comprising (i) a metal base with a mean particle size of 10 micrometres or less; (ii) a surfactant; and (iii) an organic medium in which the metal base is suspended typically by a physical process. An overbased detergent may be formed with a further reaction with acidifying overbasing agent. The invention further provides a lubricant composition containing said neutral and overbased detergent.

L'invention concerne un procédé destiné à préparer un détergent neutre ou surbasique. Ce procédé consiste à: faire réagir (a) une suspension pré-préparée comprenant (i) une base métallique d'une taille particulaire moyenne inférieure ou égale à 10 micromètres; (ii) un tensioactif; et (iii) un milieu organique dans lequel la base métallique se trouve typiquement en suspension par un procédé physique. Un détergent surbasique peut se former lors d'une réaction ultérieure, à l'aide d'un agent de surbasage acidifiant. L'invention concerne également un composition lubrifiante contenant ledit détergent neutre et le détergent surbasique.
