A method of producing calcium sulfate .alpha.-hemihydrate, including the steps of exposing a mixture including a calcium sulfate form selected from the group consisting of calcium sulfate dihydrate, calcium sulfate .beta.-hemihydrate, water-soluble calcium sulfate anhydrite, and mixtures thereof, water, and a crystallization catalyst, to microwave radiation to produce calcium sulfate .alpha.-hemihydrate; and separating at least a portion of the calcium sulfate .alpha.-hemihydrate to provide a solid comprising calcium sulfate .alpha.- hemihydrate and a remainder, is disclosed.

L'invention concerne un procédé de production d'.alpha.-semi-hydrate de sulfate de calcium, ce procédé consistant: à exposer un mélange contenant une forme de sulfate de calcium choisie dans le groupe constitué par du dihydrate de sulfate de calcium, du .beta.-semi-hydrate de sulfate de calcium, de l'anhydrite de sulfate de calcium hydrosoluble, et des mélanges de ceux-ci, de l'eau et un catalyseur de cristallisation, à un rayonnement de micro-ondes, de sorte à produire de l'.alpha.-semi-hydrate de sulfate de calcium; et à séparer au moins une partie de cet .alpha.-semi-hydrate de sulfate de calcium pour obtenir un solide contenant de l'.alpha.-semi-hydrate de sulfate de calcium et un résidu.
