- 14 - ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE L-Serine is reacted with hydrogen sulfide or an alkali metal sulfide or hydrosulfide in the presence of an enzyme to form L-cysteine and the L-cysteine is oxidized to produce L-cystine. Their reaction is carried out in the presence of dimethyl sulfoxide, which is employed as an oxidizing agent, so that the L-cysteine which is formed by the enzyme reaction may be successively converted to L-cystine in the reaction system.
