2101738 9313546 PCTABS00024 A method for mounting a filament (10) in a double-ended incandescent lamp capsule. A filament assembly (70), including a filament (10), filament supports (14, 16) attached to each end of the filament (10) and an external lead (22) connected to each filament support (14, 16), is located in a tubular lamp envelope (12). The position of the filament (10) relative to the lamp envelope (12) is determined, and the filament (10) is moved to a predetermined position relative to the lamp envelope (12), if necessary. Then, the lamp envelope (12) is heated sufficiently to cause the lamp envelope (12) to deform into contact with at least one of the filament supports (14, 16) so as to securely anchor the filament support (14, 16). The heating of the lamp envelope in regions (12a, 12b) of the filament supports (14, 16) can be performed simultaneously or at different times. One or both filament supports (14, 16) can be anchored by the tacking process.
