66742-333 ABSTRACT An implantable medical device has a catheter access port and a contact plate defining the bottom of the catheter access port. When a hypodermic needle is received in the port and contacts the contact plate an electrical circuit is establish- ed which results in a beeper sounding thereby informing the user that the needle has entered the port and delivery of the drug can begin. The device may contain its own battery or R.F. power may be received by a receiving antenna in the device.
