The invention relates to a needled glass mat comprising a mineral glass strand sized by a composition comprising water, the solids content of said composition comprising 1% to 30% by weight of a coupling agent and 30% to 99% by weight of polyvinylpyrrolidone. The invention also relates to a process for preparing a mat that comprises a) depositing or projecting sized strands onto a moving belt in order to form a web of said strands which is driven by said belt; then b) needling using barbed needles that pass through said web and that move in the direction of the web at substantially the same speed as the web when they pass through it, with a punch density ranging from 1 to 25 punches per cm2. This process is rapid and effective, and the mat obtained is easily deformed by hand in order to be placed into a mould for manufacturing a composite by resin transfer moulding (RTM). This mat may also be incorporated into a sheet moulding compound (SMC) and may be pressure-moulded.

L'invention concerne un mat de fils aiguilleté comprenant un fil en verre minéral ensimé par une composition comprenant de l'eau, l'extrait sec de ladite composition comprenant 1 à 30% en poids d'un agent de couplage et 30 à 99% en poids de polyvinylpyrrolidone. L'invention concerne également un procédé de préparation d'un mat comprenant a) la dépose ou projection de fils ensimé sur un tapis défilant pour former une nappe desdits fils entraînée par ledit tapis, puis b) l'aiguilletage par des aiguilles à barbes traversant ladite nappe et se déplaçant dans la direction de la nappe à sensiblement la même vitesse qu'elle lorsqu'elles la traversent, avec une densité de coups allant de 1 à 25 coups par cm<SUP>2</SUP>. Ce procédé est rapide et efficace et le mat obtenu se laisse facilement déformer à la main pour être placé dans un moule de fabrication de composite par injection de résine (RTM). Ce mat peut également être incorporé dans une feuille de préimprégné (SMC) et être moulé sous pression.
