A low excitation purity, gray-green, heat absorbing soda-lime-silica glass having at 4 mm. control thickness a light transmittance using illuminant A of at least about 60 %, most preferably 69.5% to 76.5% LTA, ultra violet transmittance of 30.0% to 55.0%, and infra red- transmittance of 33.0% to 55.0%, with an excitation purity of less than 1.6% using illuminant C. The glass is produced with colorants consisting of: 0.45 to 0.95 percent by weight total iron oxide as Fe2O3, between 0.09 to 0.185 wt.% thereof being in the reduced iron oxide form FeO, 0.0008 to 0.003 percent Co, together with one or more of: 0 to 0.001 percent Se, 0 to 0.5 percent MnO2, and 0 to 0.003 percent NiO.
