The invention relates to vitamin D3 analogues of the formula: (see formula I) wherein R1 is a hydrogen atom and R2 is hydroxy, or R1 is hydroxy and R2 is a hydro<3en atom, X is a hydrogen atom, hydroxy or a hydroxy protected by a hydroxy-protecting group, and R3 is a hydrogen atom or a hydroxy-protecting group. These compounds have vitamin D3-like activities such as the ability to control calcium metabolism and the ability to induce tumor cell differentiation.
