The present invention provides methods for treating and preventing acute exacerbations of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease. The methods particularly comprise administering to a patient have COPD a composition comprising O- desulfated heparin. The administration can be after onset of one or more symptoms indicating an exacerbation of COPD or prior to onset of such symptoms. After onset of an acute exacerbation, administration of the O-desulfated heparin is particularly beneficial for reducing the time of hospitalization of the patient and for reducing lung inflammation.
La présente invention concerne des procédés de traitement et de prévention d'exacerbations aiguës de la bronchopneumopathie chronique obstructive. Les procédés comprennent notamment l'administration à un patient souffrant de bronchopneumopathie chronique obstructive d'une composition comportant de l'héparine O-désulfatée. L'administration peut s'effectuer après l'apparition d'un ou de plusieurs symptômes indiquant une exacerbation de bronchopneumopathie chronique obstructive ou préalablement à l'apparition de tels symptômes. Après l'apparition d'une exacerbation aiguë, l'administration de l'héparine O-désulfatée est particulièrement bénéfique pour réduire la durée d'hospitalisation du patient et pour réduire l'inflammation pulmonaire.
