The invention concerns an optical device for detecting icing conditions, carried on an aircraft. It also comprises: means for emitting an optical beam to create at least one lighted exterior measurement volume, through which passes a flow of air containing water particles; optics for collecting at least part of the light beam diffused back by the water particles (the exterior measurement volume being located on the optical axis of the said collector optics); means for photodetection of the optical beam that is diffused back; a device for processing the signal generated by the photodetection means, to calculate the severity of the icing conditions; means for providing information on the icing conditions from the severity of the icing conditions. An advantage is that it includes optical means for distinguishing liquid water particles from solid water particles based on polarization analyses.
L'invention concerne un dispositif optique de détection de conditions givrantes embarqué dans un aéronef. Il comprend en outre: - des moyens d'émission d'un faisceau optique pour créer au moins un volume de mesure extérieur éclairé, au travers duquel circule un flux d'air chargé de particules d'eau; - une optique collectrice d'une partie au moins du faisceau lumineux rétrodiffusé par les particules d'eau (le volume de mesure extérieur étant situé sur l'axe optique de ladite optique collectrice); - des moyens de photodétection de faisceau optique rétrodiffusé; - un dispositif de traitement du signal délivré par les moyens de photodétection pour calculer la sévérité des conditions givrantes; - des moyens d'information sur les conditions givrantes à partir de la sévérité des conditions givrantes. Avantageusement, il comprend des moyens optiques de différenciation de particules d'eau liquide et de particules d'eau solide basés sur des analyses de polarisation.
