A method for making an optical attenuating device comprising an optical waveguide having a core doped with a transition metal and a cladding. The transition metal is deposited in the core during a core blankmaking process. The transition metal doped core is exposed to gaseous hydrogen in a furnace to significantly increase the attenuation of the device.
L'invention concerne un procédé de fabrication d'un dispositif d'atténuation optique, comprenant un guide d'ondes optiques, composé d'un noyau dopé par un métal de transition, et d'une gaine. Le métal de transition est déposé dans ce noyau au cours d'un procédé de fabrication d'une ébauche de noyau. Le noyau dopé au métal de transition est ensuite exposé à de l'hydrogène gazeux dans un four, afin d'augmenter considérablement la gamme d'atténuation du dispositif.
