The oxytocin antogonist represented by formula (I) Image wherein (S-PmP is .beta.,.beta.-(3-thiapentamethylene)-.beta.- mercaptopropionic acid, D-Trp is the D form of tryptophan, and Ile, Gln, Asn Pen (Pen = penicillamine), Pro, and Arg are the L forms of isoleucine, glutamine, asparagine, penicillamine, proline and arginine, respectively. This compound can be administered to pregnant women to arrest premature labor while avoiding unwanted side effects due to antogonism of the antidiuretic hormone, vasopressin.
Un antagoniste de l'oxytocine est représenté par la formule (I) où (S)Pmp désigne l'acide beta,beta-(3-thiapentaméthylène)-beta-mercaptoproprionique, D-Trp est la forme D de tryptophane, et Ile, Gln, Asn, Pen (Pen = penicillamine), Pro, and Arg sont les formes L respectivement d'isoleucine, de glutamine, d'asparagine, de proline et d'arginine. On peut administrer ce composé à des femmes enceintes afin d'arrêter l'accouchement prématuré, tout en évitant des effets secondaires indésirables dûs à l'antagonisme vis-à-vis de l'hormone anti-diurétique vasopressine.
