The present invention provides a paper product for use in sterilizing an area. The paper product contain at least one paper sheet or pellet containing one or more dry chemical materials, one or more dry deliquescent materials, or mixtures thereof. The dry chemical materials are either inactive antimicrobial or biocidal chemical materials or are capable of reacting with another chemical material to produce one or more active antimicrobial or biocidal materials. When the paper product is placed in an atmosphere containing water vapor, the deliquescent material(s) attracts water and dissolves, thereby either hydrating and rendering active the inactive antimicrobial or biocidal chemical material(s), or providing a medium in which the chemical materials will react to produce one or more active antimicrobial or biocidal chemical materials.

L'invention concerne un produit de papier pour la stérilisation d'une surface, qui renferme au moins une feuille ou bille de papier contenant un ou plusieurs matériaux chimiques secs, un ou plusieurs matériaux chimiques secs déliquescents, ou bien des mélanges correspondants. Les matériaux chimiques secs sont soit des matériaux chimiques antimicrobiens ou biocides inactifs, soit des matériaux capables de réagir avec un autre matériau chimique pour donner un ou plusieurs matériaux chimiques antimicrobiens ou biocides actifs. Lorsque ce produit est placé dans une atmosphère qui renferme de la vapeur d'eau, le ou les matériaux déliquescents attirent l'eau et se dissolvent, hydratant et activant le ou les matériaux chimiques antimicrobiens ou biocides inactifs, ou bien donnant un milieu dans lequel les matériaux chimiques réagissent pour donner un ou plusieurs matériaux chimiques antimicrobiens ou biocides actifs.
