A wet cooling tower has a passive plume abatement system comprising a heat pipe or thermosyphon assembly with the evaporator sections located in the hot water section of the cooling tower to absorb heat therefrom and transfer this heat from the condenser sections to the saturated air flowing through the cooling tower, and thus desaturating the air to achieve plume abatement.
