Red-emitting complexes [Os(pypz)2L2], L = PPh2Me (1) and L = PPhMe2 (2), or [Os(pytz)2L2], L = PPh2Me (3), were isolated from treatment of blue- emitting complex [Os(pypz)2(CO)2] or its relevant analogue [Os(pytz)2(CO)]2 with Me3NO to eliminate the coordinated CO ligands, followed by addition of the phosphine ligands. Highly intensive phosphorescent emission was observed for complexes 1 - 3 in CH2Cl2 solution maximized at 617, 632 and 649 nm, respectively. A preliminary investigation of the electroluminescent properties of these compounds on OLEDs was conducted using these Os(II) materials in emitting layers, exhibiting the best performances ever reported for the Os(II) based electroluminescent materials.
