The present invention relates to a photocatalytic reactor, based on UV light sources and a supported catalyst based on titanium dioxide (TiO2) and ozone gas for producing hydroxyl radicals for purification of waste water from confined aquaculture based on Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOP), wherein the catalyst is supported over glass films in the form of fixed strips within said reactor at a pre-established distance from the UV light source, where the water is treated by "batches" being re-circulated and returned to the circuit, the waste water id fed by the lower end of the reactor and submitted to a strong turbulence as passing by perforations existing on the supports forming the floor of the reaction chambers. This invention further relates to a process for purifying and disinfecting wastewater from confined aquaculture using advanced oxidation processes.
