ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention provides a communications transmitting photoconductive fibre comprising a core of multicomponent glass and an outer wall of SiO2 glass, with a borosilicate glass zone intervening between the core and outer wall, wherein, the multicomponent glass and the borosilicate glass zone are stabilised by a content of Sb2O3 and the multi-component glass is produced with every layer discretely formed by pyrolysis with application of O2 at a temperature of at least 1800°C.
