ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The method of sealing the overlap between a pair of telescoped engaging pipes comprises the steps of forming a pair of clamp segments with each clamp segment having an arcuate body terminating at one end in a straight threaded shank and at its other end in an apertured boss formed as a part of the body, assembling the pair of clamp segments in opposed relation around the outer pipe at the overlap, longitudinally projecting the shank of each clamp segment within the boss of the other clamp segment, and threading nut on the shank of each segment tightly against the adjacent boss of the other segment, drawing up the clamp segments relative to each other forming concentric outer annular channels in the pipes, and a corresponding inner annular bead in the outer pipe nested within the channel upon the inner pipe, and with the arcuate bodies annularly nested and interlocked within the outer annular channel in the outer pipe. The method is particularly adaptable in the connections between the pipes of a vehicle exhaust system. The method includes a series of steps not shown in any other known prior patent or publication.
