A B S T R A C T The invention relates to a polyamide 4.6 fibre for V-belt reinforcement having the following characteristics: a. Intrinsic viscosity (dl/g): at least 1.40 b. Tenacity (g/d): at least 8.0 c. Elongation at break (%): at least 12 d. Elongation at specified load (intermediate elongation) of 3.5 g/d (%): not more than 9.5 e. Dry thermal shrinkage (%): not more than 5 f. Thermal contractive stress (g/d): at least 0.08 and the cord, obtained therefrom, after dipping satisfies: g-1 Tenacity (g/d): at least 7.5 g-2 Elongation at break (%): at least 10 g-3 Dry thermal shrinkage (%): at most 2.5 g-4 Thermal contractive stress (g/d): at least 0.20 and the production thereof.
