A router for routing packets in a packet network is described. At least two queues at a node of the packet network are formed and a packet arriving at the node is conducted to a queue on the basis of at least one of the following criteria: (a) a subscriber-specific criterion or (b) a service/quality-of-service- specific criterion. A preferred number of packets is transmitted from the queues at one go. The router also sends all packets from a queue, if the transmitting of a predefined number of packets from each queue at one go would leave a number of packets in the queue, the number being smaller than a predefined threshold value.
