Abstract There is described a process for purifying styrene- containing exhaust air, wherein styrene is removed by filtration, and an apparatus for carrying out the process. A biofilter prepared of bark, particularly of pine bark is used for this purpose. The filter comprises a granular packing with the granule diameter of 0.5 to 3 cm. The process is particularly inexpensive compared to the pertinent prior art methods which are based on the physical adsorption of styrene on activated carbon filters.
