13 Abstract of the invention A process for preparing a tetragonal barium titanate film with a thickness of from about 0.1 millimeter to about 1.5 millimeters is disclosed. In the first step of this processs there is provided a batch containing from about 46 to about 54 mole percent of barium oxide, from about 18 to about 32 mole percent of titanium oxide, and from about 32 to about 18 mole percent of boron oxide, wherein each of said reagents is calculated on the oxide basis in mole percent from a barium compound, a titanium compound, and a boron oxide compound in said batch. In the second step of the process, the batch is melted at a temperature of from about 1300 to about 1400 degrees centigrade for from about 25 to about 40 minutes until it is molten. Thereafter, the temperature of the molten batch is reduced to ambient temperature in less than about 30 seconds, thereby producing glass. The glass produced by quenching is placed upon an polycrystalline isostructural substrate. The substrate/glass assembly is subjected to a temperature of from about 1150 to about 1250 degrees centigrade for from about 10 to 20 minutes until the glass becomes molten and flows over the surface of the substrate; In the next step, the temperature of the substrate/glass assembly is reduced to from about 950 to about 1,050 degrees centigrade. Thereafter, the temperature of the assembly is maintained at from about 950 to about 1,050 degrees centigrade for from about 25 to about 60 minutes.
