ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The production of aromatic or heteroaromatic nitriles from their reactiongases, which are formed in the reaction of cyanogen chloride with aromatic or heteroaromatic methylene or methyl compounds, is carried out by partial condensation of the reaction gases at decreasing temperature stages so that the nitriles are not subjected, for a lengthy period, to a contact with the simultaneously formed hydrogen chloride.
