ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process for producing a urea phenol-formaldehyde binder for moulding sand mixtures which comprises heating urea and formaldehyde taken in a molar ratio of 1:(1.9-2.1) at a pH of from 6.5 to 8.0 to a temperature of from 80 to 100°C; add- ing an acid catalyst to obtain a pH value of from 4.2 to 4.7; keeping at this pH for 15 to 30 minutes; increasing pH value to 6.5-8.0; adding phenol and formaldehyde to obtain a molar ratio between phenol, urea and formaldehyde equal to (0.25- 0.4):1:(2.5-2.7); maintaining a temperature within the range of from 85 to 90°C and pH of from 7.5 to 9.0 for 40 to 60 minutes; drying in vacuum to obtain a refractive index of 1.468-1.472; adding urea to obtain a molar ratio between phenol urea, and formaldehyde equal to (0.2-0.3):1:(1.8-2.2) and keeping at a temperature of from 55 to 65°C for 20 to 40 minutes, followed by cooling. The process according to the present invention makes it possible to increase reactivity of the binder, thus providing for the possibility of air-curing of the moulding sand mixtures based on said binder.
