ABSTRACT A process for the biotechnical production of rhamnoli- pids with high surface activity using Pseudomonas spec. DSM 2874 in the form of growing, dormant and immobi- lized cell substance is described, by means of which the rhamnolipids are obtained in high yield per g dry cell substance. Also described are two new rhamnolipids with only one .beta.-hydroxydecanecarboxylic acid residue in the molecule and defined as .alpha.-L-rhamnopyranosyl and 2- 0-.alpha.-L-rhamnopyranosyl-.alpha.-L-rhamnopyranosyl-.alpha.-hydroxyde- cane-carboxylic acid with a molecular weight of 334 and 480 respectively.
