The invention relates to a process for the conditioning of polluted water using a source of hydrogen peroxide and/or ozone and a heterogeneous catalyst. According to the invention, a catalyst containing an Fe(III)-OH structural element is used, in particular a catalyst containing beta- Fe(O)OH. Treatment is carried out preferably at pH 5 to 9.
