PRECIS DE LA DIVULGATION: L'invention concerne un procédé de fabrication d'oxydes métalliques vitreux, selon lequel on dissout un alcoolate métallique dans un alcool dont le pKa est inférieur à 15,74 de manière à obtenir une solution alcoolique de l'alcoolate métallique; on dissout de l'eau dans un solvant organique pour obtenir un milieu aqueux présentant une valeur de pH supérieure à 1,5; on mélange la solution alcoolique et le milieu aqueux dans des conditions réglées pour provoquer une gélification de l'oxyde métallique. Ce procédé s'applique notamment à la fabrication d'oxyde de zirconium vitreux.
