The invention relates to a process for the isolation of vinyl acetate from the gas mixture formed in the reaction of ethylene with acetic acid and oxygen over catalysts containing palladium or palladium compounds in the gas phase. The method of workup of the invention has a low expenditure of distillation energy and uses a lower number of column plates resulting in significantly lower investment costs.
