Abstract: Waste gases emitted from melting furnaces, especially for the production of soda-lime glass, contain particulate and gaseous pollutants, most of which are separated from the flow of waste gases by conventionell bag filters (10). For that the flow of waste gases is cooled down to a temperature low enough not to damage the filtering material, to avoid condensation processes extensively and to promote chemical reactions of the pollutants on or before the filtering cloth forming particulates which can be filtered easily, e.g. NaHS04. The conditions necessary for the desired reaction are controlled by a preheater (11). The preheater (11) cools down the waste gas and heats the cullet to be fed. This allows an unlimited recycling of ecology cullet for the production of any type of glass as well as an abatement of particulate material of industrial scale in an economic manner.
