Abstract A process for the selective hydrogenation of unsaturated polymers containing nitrile groups. Unsaturated polymers containing nitrile groups can be hydrogenated with the preservation of the nitrile group in a homogeneous phase with a catalyst of the formula: Image in which X represen-ts hydrogen, halogen or SnC13, L1 represents optionally substituted indenyl, L2 represents a phosphane, bisphosphane or arsane and n signifies 1 or 2, if a low-molecular ketone is used as a solvent.
