CASE 3273 "PROCESS FOR THE SYNTHESIS OF ?-HYDROXYESTERS" Abstract A new process for the synthesis of the ?-hydroxy- esters described by formula (1), by starting from the corresponding ?-hydroxy-nitriles is disclosed, which comprises the following reaction steps: 1. formation of the 2-hydroxy-imino-methyl-ester hydrochloride by means of the reaction of the hydroxy-nitrile with anhydrous methanol in the presence of hydrochloric acid, 2. reaction of said 2-hydroxy-imino ester hydrochloride with water.
