The invention provides in one aspect a process for preparing a microgel by RAFT polymerizing in the presence of a RAFT chain transfer agent, one or more solvophobic monomers and one or more solvophilic monomers to form one or more block copolymers comprising one or more solvophobic blocks and one or more solvophilic blocks wherein the solvophobic block is insoluble in a dispersing medium and the solvophilic block is soluble in the dispersing medium. The block copolymer is dispersed in the dispersing medium to form micelles, which is then stabilized to form the microgel. The dispersing medium can be aqueous or lipophilic. The method of the present invention also permits one to encapsulate a wide variety of materials, such as pigments, dye molecules, and aluminum flakes used in metallized paints.
Dans un aspect, l'invention concerne un procédé de préparation d'un microgel par polymérisation au moyen du procédé RAFT en présence d'un agent de migration de chaîne RAFT, d'un ou de plusieurs monomères solvophobes et d'un ou de plusieurs monomères solvophiles afin de former un ou plusieurs copolymères bloc comprenant un ou plusieurs blocs solvophobes et un ou plusieurs blocs solvophiles. Le bloc solvophobe est insoluble dans un milieu de dispersion tandis que le bloc solvophile est soluble le milieu de dispersion. Le copolymère bloc est dispersé dans le milieu de dispersion afin de former des micelles, lesquelles sont ensuite stabilisées afin de former le microgel. Le milieu de dispersion peut être aqueux ou lipophile. Le procédé selon l'invention permet également d'encapsuler un grand nombre de matériaux, tels que des pigments, des molécules colorantes et des paillettes d'aluminium utilisées dans des peintures métallisées.
