ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A fluid-bed reactor is operated in such a way as to better control the desired level of fluidization of the catalyst in the reactor, thereby resulting in a more trouble-free process, the desired level of fluidization is controlled by the use of a thermocouple in the fluid bed which measures temperature fluctuations in the range of from 0.1°F to 0.5 F; this measured temperature is compared to an average temperature and a standard deviation is calculated which quantifies the quality of fluidization; the ratio of reactants entering the fluid-bed reactor are adjusted to maintain the standard deviation below a preselected numerical value; the proclivity to stickiness of the catalyst in the reactor, which is deleterious to the efficiency is thus overcome.
