A radiation shield and method for reducing ambient radiation levels at a distance from a surface irradiated by penetrating radiation emanating from an instrument. The shield attaches to an end of the instrument abutting an irradiated surface and has a platen of attenuating material disposed within a plane substantially transverse to the propagation direction of penetrating radiation and substantially adjacent to the irradiated surface.

La présente invention concerne un écran de protection contre les rayonnements et un procédé permettant de réduire les niveaux de rayonnement ambiants à une distance d'une surface irradiée par des rayonnements pénétrants émanant d'un instrument. L'écran de protection se fixe à une extrémité de l'instrument, en butée contre une surface irradiée, et comprend une plaque dans un matériau atténuant les rayonnements qui est disposée dans un plan sensiblement transversal par rapport à la direction de propagation du rayonnement pénétrant, et sensiblement adjacente à la surface irradiée.
