The invention provides a garden rake that has the function of a conventional rake as well as a tool to pick up leaves. This invention includes a compound rake, a rake handle and a leaf pick up mechanism. The compound rake consists of two sub rakes that are spring-hinge connected, allowing the two sub rakes to close and open. The rake handle is tube shaped, allowing a control shaft to pass through. The leaf pick up mechanism includes a connecting rod assembly, which activates the opening and closing of the compound rake it also includes a control shaft that is firmly fixed to the rake at the center of the opposite end of the tine points. The leaf pick up mechanism also includes a control handle, located on the upper end of the rake handle and telescoping with the rake handle.
