This invention pertains to rechargeable zinc alkaline electrochemical cells. In cells of the invention, particulate zinc composition in the anode is devoid of bismuth or has reduced levels of bismuth, and preferably comprises indium and/or other components as alloying material. The particulate zinc composition preferably also contains aluminum and/or lead and/or calcium. Preferred quantities of the alloying materials are about 200 ppm to about 1000 ppm indium, about 200 ppm to about 1000 ppm lead, about 40 ppm to about 150 ppm aluminum, and about 110 ppm to about 190 ppm calcium. Cells embodying anode compositions of the invention exhibit reduced gas generation at recharge, and reduced incidence of leakage and/or venting incident to electrically abusive uses.

La présente invention concerne des piles électrochimiques rechargeables alcalines à anode de zinc.
