A computer executable method of performing a modal interval operation, and system for performing same is provided. The method includes providing representations of first and second modal interval operands. Each modal interval operand of the operands is delimited by first and second marks of a digital scale, each mark of the marks comprises a bit-pattern. Each bit- pattern of the bit-patterns of the marks of each of the modal interval operands are examined, and conditions of a set of status flags corresponding to each bit-pattern of the bit-patterns of the marks are set. A bit-mask is computed wherein the mask is based upon the set condition of the status flag sets and a presence/absence of an exceptional arithmetic condition, and a presence/absence of an indefinite operand are each represented by a bit of said bits of said bit mask.
L'invention concerne un procédé pouvant être exécuté par ordinateur et effectuant une opération d'intervalles modaux et un système permettant de mettre en oeuvre celui-ci. Le procédé consiste à fournir des représentations de premier et second opérandes d'intervalle modal. Chaque opérande d'intervalles modaux est délimité par des première et seconde marques d'une échelle numérique, chaque marque comprenant une configuration binaire. Chaque configuration binaire des marques de chaque opérande d'intervalles modaux est examinée et des conditions d'un ensemble de drapeaux de statut correspondant à chaque configuration binaire des marques sont établies. Un masque binaire est calculé, celui-ci étant fondé sur la condition établie des ensembles de drapeaux de statut et une présence/absence d'une condition arithmétique exceptionnelle et une présence/absence d'un opérande indéfini étant représentées individuellement par un bit des bits du masque binaire.
