A safety bedding system for use on a bed with a mattress is provided. The bedding system comprises a lower layer, for covering at least a portion of the mattress, which includes a body retaining means, and a cover layer having first fastening means to detachably connect the cover layer to the bed and second fastening means to detachably connect the cover layer to the lower layer. The bedding system is advantageously used with infants to maintain safety and comfort when placed in a crib.
