A satellite broadcasts radio programs to mobile and fixed receivers at various locations. Ground stations (220, 320, 620, 720, 820, 1120) supplement the satellite broadcasts in areas where the satellite signal may be shadowed. Likewise, the satellite signal supplements the terrestrial transmissions in areas with marginal terrestrial signal strength. Ground stations (220, 320, 620, 720, 820, 1120) and a satellite (210, 1110) transmit the same digital symbol stream over a same frequency spectrum. The symbol streams arrive in each service area of the ground stations (220, 320, 620, 720, 820. 1120) with a relative delay that is within a window for which a receiver is adapted to decode efficiently. Spectral efficiency is achieved by allowing the ground stations to share the same frequencies as the satellites.
L'invention concerne un satellite qui diffuse des programmes radio sur des récepteurs mobiles et fixes au niveau de divers emplacements. Des stations au sol (220, 320, 620, 720, 820, 1120) complètent les radiodiffusions par satellite dans des zones où le signal satellite peut être occulté. De même, le signal satellite complète les transmissions terrestres dans des zones ayant une puissance de signal terrestre marginale. Des stations au sol (220, 320, 620, 720, 820, 1120) et un satellite (210, 1110) transmettent le même flux de symboles numériques sur un spectre de même fréquence. Les flux de symboles arrivent dans chaque zone de desserte des stations au sol (220, 320, 620, 720, 820, 1120) avec un retard relatif qui se situe dans une fenêtre permettant un décodage efficace par un récepteur. On obtient ne utilisation efficace du spectre en permettant aux stations au sol de partager les mêmes fréquences que les satellites.
