Description

A mobile satellite communications terminal (2) comprises a portable computer (68), an interface card (8) containing intermediate frequency (IF) conversion circuitry (28, 52), and an antenna assembly (10) including RF conversion circuitry (34, 50) and an antenna (44). The interface card (8) is connected to the antenna assembly (10) by a detachable cable (32), which carries IF signals. This arrangement reduces RF power losses and interference. The antenna (44) is manually steerable towards a geostationary or quasi- geostationary satellite (12). A navigation signal antenna (56) is mounted on the antenna assembly (10) and is steerable independently of the antenna (44) so as to be vertically aligned, which is the optimum position for receiving navigation signals. The antenna assembly (10) includes orientation sensors (70, 75) which allow the difference between the current and the correct orientation of the antenna (44) to be calculated. This difference is indicated to the user to assist manual steering of the antenna (44).

L'invention concerne un terminal mobile de communication par satellite (2) comportant un ordinateur portable (68); une carte d'interface (8) contenant un circuit de conversion fréquence intermédiaire (F.I.) (28, 52); et un ensemble antenne (10) comportant un circuit de conversion H.F. (34, 50) et une antenne (44). La carte d'interface (8) est connectée à l'ensemble antenne (10) au moyen d'un câble détachable (32) qui transporte des signaux F.I.. Ce dispositif réduit les pertes de puissance radioélectrique et les interférences. L'antenne (44) peut être orientée manuellement en direction d'un satellite géostationnaire ou quasiment géostationnaire (12). Une antenne pour signaux de navigation (56) est fixée sur l'ensemble antenne (10) et peut être orientée indépendamment de l'antenne (44) de manière à être alignée verticalement, ce qui représente la position optimale de réception des signaux de navigation. L'ensemble antenne (10) comporte des détecteurs d'orientation (70, 75) qui permettent de calculer la différence entre l'orientation courante et l'orientation correcte de l'antenne (44). Cette différence est indiquée à l'utilisateur dans le but de l'aider à orienter manuellement l'antenne (44).
