A cryptographic engine (10) that includes a scalable cryptographic coprocessor (14) that is controlled by, and separate from, a main engine processor (12). The coprocessor includes a register bank (40) for receiving and storing data packets to be encrypted, and a cryptographic processing device (34a-34n) coupled to the register bank (40) with a processing capacity that is scalable based on application-specific parameters. The coprocessor (14) also includes a control device (38) coupled to the register bank (40) and the cryptographic processing device (34a-34n) for instructing the cryptographic processing device to perform a cryptographic processing operation unique to the cryptographic processing device (34a-34n) based on externally-received processing instructions.

L'invention concerne un moteur cryptographique (10) comportant un coprocesseur cryptographique échelonnable (14) commandé par un processeur du moteur principal (12) duquel il est séparé. Le coprocesseur comporte une banque d'enregistrement (40) destinée à recevoir et à stocker des paquets de données à chiffrer et un dispositif de traitement cryptographique (34a-34n) couplé à la banque d'enregistrement (40) et présentant une capacité de traitement qui est échelonnable sur la base de paramètres spécifiques d'une application. Le coprocesseur (14) comporte également un dispositif de commande (38) couplé à la banque d'enregistrement (40) et au dispositif de traitement cryptographique (34a-34n) afin de donner au dispositif de traitement cryptographique la consigne d'effectuer une opération de traitement cryptographique exclusive du dispositif de traitement cryptographique (34a-34n) sur la base d'instructions de traitement reçues de l'extérieur.
