The invention concerns a screen element, in particular a screen basket to sort/classify fibre suspensions, consisting of parallel bars, between which slot-shaped screen openings are formed. The screen opening, formed between two adjacent screen bars, is at least partly limited by parallel walls, with the parallel side wall of the subsequent bar extending further in the direction of flow in the screen opening than the parallel side wall of the preceding bar. It has been proven that, with the present screen element, the wear behaviour of the bars and the resistance to flow can be favourably influenced.
