A sealed compound crust sandwich is provide which comprises at least first and second superposed slices of bread free from natural crust, at least one filling preparation applied at each interface of two adjacent bread slices, and a compound crust covering the peripheral surface of said sandwich in order to substantially seal each interface peripheral line and present a substantially uniform coating on the peripheral surface of the sandwich. The invention further contemplated a method for preparing a sealed compound crust sandwich comprising at least the steps of: a) providing at least first and second slices of bread free from natural crust, each having two main faces and a peripheral surface; b) applying a filling preparation to a main face of said first slice of bread; c) applying said second slice of bread on top of said filling preparation while vertically aligning said peripheral surfaces; d) applying an edible binding preparation to the aligned peripheral surfaces; and e) applying an edible mixture on top of the binding preparation to constitute a compound crust.
